Introduction to Mystery Shopping

What is Mystery Shopping?

To briefly explain, Mystery Shopping is a task or process where the mystery shoppers do a test buy of products or services to gauge the effectiveness and other aspects of the client’s business. You may be required to do a purchase or ask questions with the store staff on specific products. You will the rate the service and or product provided by the sales staff, appearance of the store and other criteria based on the questions provided in the questionnaire provided to you prior to the mystery shop.

You may be required to take photos of the store front and submit physical or scanned copies of receipts, and other items as proof of your visit. In some instances, the client may validate your visit by checking on CCTVvideos in the store. The proof of shop must be submitted within the deadline set by the client after the actual shop date.

For your payment, you may either be given a reimbursement of what is purchased or paid in cash, depending on the agreement or terms of the shop.

Common practice for payment in cash is either through bank deposit to your account, paypal or any other means of money transfer. In other projects, you may keep the merchandise bought or be reimbursed up to a certain amount.

Simply put it this way: It is like the management or the owner of the business testing the quality of service, appearance of the store, layout of products, knowledge of their crew and other factors without being there. Instead, you become their quality auditor to ensure standards are met.

How do I do it?

There is training provided in the site, once you are already a member.

What are the usual requirements?

1. You must be of legal age to conduct the transaction

2. You must maintain ethical standards of subjectivity and keep knowledge of your assignment to your self. Never divulge to the store people that you are doing an audit.

3. Keen eye for details - Know your shop questionnaire by heart. If the questionnaire requires you to validate the appearance and arrangement of items in the store, take note of it. Take note if the store personnel were courteous and knowledgeable of their products, etc.

3. Meet the required deadlines in submitting shop reports, proof of visit, etc.

4.If you are unable to conduct a visit as scheduled, advise your client as early as possible so they can assign the task to other shoppers.

5. Payment Channel where to receive you payment - Usually Paypal or an active bank account where your payment will be deposited.

Do we already have these in the Phillipines? Is it nationwide?
